Get ready for a taste of heaven with this scrumptious chocolatey goodness, covered in a divine peanut butter and maple syrup frosting. Anyone would ditch a peanut butter cup for a slice of this cake! Decorate it with chocolate chips, grate a bar of chocolate on top or add plenty of chocolate curls for a beautiful cake.

This decadent, delicious chocolate cake is definitely worth a try! To be extra snazzy, why not serve a slice of this cake with vanilla or raspberry ice cream?

  • 3 cups flour (or 360 g)
  • ½ cup cocoa powder (or 60 g)
  • 2 cups sugar (or 400 g)
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 cups water (or 470 g)
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice, or vinegar
  • ⅔ cup oil

  • 2 tbsp cocoa
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 6 tbsp maple syrup
  • 6 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  1. Combine the flour, cocoa, sugar, salt, and baking soda.
  2. Add the water, oil, lemon juice, and vanilla extract, and mix until you obtain a smooth batter.
  3. Pour into a greased round baking pan, and bake at medium heat (around 300°F/150°C) for about 40 minutes.
  4. In the meantime, mix the frosting ingredients.
  5. Allow the cake to cool off, then spread the frosting evenly onto the cake.

Use a vegetable peeler to grate dark chocolate, so you can decorate your cake with beautiful chocolate ribbons.

For an even more chocolaty cake add 1 cup of chocolate chips to the batter.

To make a coffee cake, replace the cocoa powder with instant coffee powder.

For muffins, use half the batter for a pan of 8 muffins, and bake for 20 minutes.
